Wanted for Anti-American Activity |

Standing noble in the forests lush with life and promise the Redwood Forests of Northern California have withstood the assault of nature for thousands of years. Winds, rains, storms, lightening, and disease have only
strengthened these resolute titans. But now the most powerful destructive force on earth - greed and corruption - threaten to level this forest and bring to an end the majesty of one of our nation's vanishing
natural treasures.
Defenseless against the forces of greed and corruption the Redwood Forests rely on the champions who risk everything to protect them - the activist. The Gypsy Chain is a theater project that depicts the life and
death of one of these stalwart heroes and his efforts to save the arboreal wonderland.
As long as humans could speak, we have been sharing myths; ancient stories, passed down from generation to generation that inspire and explain our relationship to our world and it's inhabitants. One of the
better-known myths is the hero's journey: a young man or woman, hungry for adventure and a higher calling, journeys into a new world. There he/she undergoes a series of trials and overcomes obstacles, emerging
from the initiation a hero, and returns home to share their newfound knowledge with others. The Gypsy Chain tells the heroic journey of David Chain, environmental activist, whose heroic journey is cut short by his
untimely death, but whose message continues to inspire the lives of those left behind. |

This is a multimedia production performed by a cast of 22 men and women, and a band of five musicians. Using the historical accounts and words to establish and build an emotional journey, the show will include video
footage, dramatic lighting, choreographed movement, and spoken text. Drawing from letters, historical accounts, observations, and interviews, the production will counterpoint the events surrounding David's life and
death, and succeed in illuminating the war between activists and lumber companies over California's ancient Redwoods. In addition, the story helps dispel the misconceptions about the activists and logging families
involved in the struggle. |
